Da Lat, a mountain town famous for its coffee, was an unplanned stop on my trip through Vietnam. From Mui Ne, the only buses available were either back to Saigon or North to Da Lat, so I chose to keep moving North as planned and figured I would just stay a night in Da Lat. However, thanks to two very fun EasyRider guides (EasyRider is a popular company in Vietnam that offers tours in which you sit on the back of a motorbike while your guide drives you to your destinations), Da Lat became my favorite town in Southern Vietnam!
DaLat town feels very European. It lights up at night!
My friend Casey and I actually didn’t mean to book EasyRiders at all; we thought we booked a normal tour that would take us around the countryside in a car. But when Tree and Fook arrived at our hostel, we went with it. It ended up being the best day. Here is a list of the cool things we did in Da Lat (all while enjoying the breeze and view from the motorbike):
- Saw Lin Quang Dragon Pagoda in central Da Lat town.
- Got lost in the Da Lat hills for an hour on what should’ve been a 20 minute hike to a viewpoint.
- Saw a flower farm.
- Tasted rice wine and saw the rice wine-making operation.
Agriculture is the main industry in Da Lat, as well as most of Vietnam. The view we got lost for. Smiling because I’m unaware we are about to get lost. At least there were pretty trees while we were lost. Flower farms are pretty (duh) Felt artsy. Might delete later. Viieeewwwwssss This motorbike was way nicer than any of the ones anybody ever let’s me rent. Me and my guide Fook! (Notice the height difference which is very standard for me in Vietnam.) Rice wine distilling! Just a baby komodo and a python in some rice wine, no big deal.
- Tasted weasel poop coffee: a famous Vietnamese specialty coffee made using coffee beans that weasels have eaten and then pooped back out (it is DELICIOUS).
Smiling with my weasel poop coffee! I spilled it…. Good job…..
- Saw Elephant Waterfall in Da Lat.
- Went to a mushroom farm and learned how mushrooms are grown (it’s really cool).
- Went to a silk spinning factory. Somewhere in my mind I was aware that silk comes from silkworms, but it was still weird to see it in action.
- Went to Pongour Waterfall a bit outside of the city. It was massive and made me feel tiny (as well as tired because there were a lot of steps).
- Stopped at the beautiful Paradise Lake.
- Explored the Crazy House, one of the top ten weirdest buildings in the world.
The Crazy House Inside part of the Crazy House. Paradise Lake Elephant Waterfall. Our guides told us a really cool legend about this waterfall but I forgot it. Pongour Waterfall Hiking toward Pongour Waterfall through Jurassic Park This is what mushroom farms look like!! My mind was blown.
😀
don’t delete the flowers. When are you coming back to the U.S.A. When are you going to visit Fla. ??????
Buy me a plane ticket! 😊
